Hey everyone – my name is Leila and I am responsible for the General Student Committee (AStA) International Affairs department at Osnabrück University.

This department aims at making studying and living in Osnabrück easier for international students.

So you can contact me if you have any questions or wishes around your studies and life in Osnabrück. Usually, I can either help you out myself or forward you to points who can. 

Some (but not all) of the topics you can contact me about:

• Official matters (administsration and (local) authorities)
• Orientation at the university, student ID, public transport, university organizations
• Everyday study life (courses, exams, term papers, applications)

• Apartment search, rental contracts, moving
• Internships and job searches, financing options, etc.

You can also approach me if you want to connect yourself and/or if you are looking to get politically active, I can give you an overview of the local structures.

Also note that I am not an expert on all of the matters above, however I will do what I can to support you.

Über das Referat

Hey – ich bin Leila und bin Referentin für Internationales am AStA (Allgemeiner Studierenden-Ausschuss) der Universität Osnabrück.

Das Referat ist dafür da, das Studieren und Leben in Osnabrück für internationale Studierende leichter zu machen.

Ihr könnt mich also kontaktieren, wenn ihr Fragen oder Wünsche rund um euer Studium und Leben in Osnabrück habt. In der Regel kann ich euch entweder direkt helfen, oder euch zu einer Stelle weiterleiten die es kann.

Einige (aber nicht alle) Themen, zu denen ihr mich kontaktieren könnt: 

• Offizielle/Rechtliche Probleme (Verwaltung und (lokale) Authoritäten (z.B. Ausländerbehörde))
• Orientierung an der Uni, Studi-Ausweis, öffentliche Verkehrsmittel (Bus, Bahn), Uni-Organe
• Studien-Alltag (Kurse, Klausuren, Hausarbeiten, Anträge)

• Wohnungssuche, (Miet-)Verträge, Umzüge
• Praktika und Jobsuche, Finanzierungs-Optionen, etc.

Ihr könnt mich auch kontaktieren wenn ihr euch (sozial) vernetzen und/oder politisch aktiv werden wollt, ich gebe euch gerne einen Überblick über die lokalen Strukturen.

Außerdem bin ich nicht Expertin in allen oben genannten Feldern, ich tue aber was ich kann um euch zu unterstützen.

Foreigner's Office | Ausländerbehörde

Many international students are having trouble with the Foreigner's Office (Ausländerbehörde) for different reasons. I have created a document which contains information on how you can deal with them. On top of that, you can contact me if you do not get an appointment and/or if you have any questions concerning Ausländerbehörde.

Viele internationale Studis haben aus unterschiedlichen Gründen Probleme mit der Ausländerbehörde. Ich habe ein Dokument erstellt, in dem ihr Informationen dazu findet wie ihr mit der Ausländerbehörde umgehen könnt. Außerdem könnt ihr mich kontaktieren falls ihr keinen Termin kriegt und/oder Fragen zur Ausländerbehörde habt.

Events

There are events that are organized regularly, both from inside and outside the Universtiy, and that you're welcome to participate in. I am doing my best to make them public and accessible through the AStA website and the small newsletter above, the AStA Instagram account, the Telegram channel and/or flyers in the Mensa. Please feel free to approach me with feedback, critique or your own ideas for possible events.

Es gibt viele Veranstaltungen, von innerhalb und außerhalb der Uni, an denen ihr gerne teilnehmen könnt. Ich gebe mein Bestes, Angebote über die AStA-Website und den kleinen Newsletter (s. oben), den AStA Instagram-Account, den Telegram Kanal und/oder Mensa-Flyer offen und zugänglich zu machen. Mit Rückmeldungen, Kritik oder euren eigenen Ideen für Veranstaltungen könnt ihr immer auf mich zukommen.

Housing

The AStA is constantly trying to improve the housing situation for students. To achieve that, we are in contact with several actors in- and outside of the Uni as well as part of some networks. 

If you are looking for a place to stay and/or have questions concerning housing, you can reach out to me. There is also an email by the International Office with a lot of information on portals for finding housing, the housing market in Osnabrück, scams and more.

If you are interested, I can forward you the email.

Der AStA versucht konstant, die Wohnbedingungen für Studis zu verbessern. Dafür stehen wir in Kontakt mit Akteur*innen an und außerhalb der Uni und sind Teil von verschiedenen Netzwerken.

Wenn ihr eine Wohnung suchst und/oder Fragen rund um Wohnen habt, könnt ihr mich kontaktieren. Es gibt außerdem eine Email vom International Office mit viel Informationen zu Portalen zur Wohnungsfindung, den Wohnungsmarkt in Osnabrück, Scams und mehr.

Falls ihr interessiert seid, kann ich die Email an euch weiterleiten.

Ihr erreicht mich unter astaint@uos.de und während meiner Bürozeit. Sobald ich die genauen Bürozeiten weiß, werde ich sie hier veröffentlichen. Sie werden dann im AStA stattfinden (Alte Münze 12).

• A document created by this department, providing some information on how the foreigner's office (Ausländerbehörde) works and tips on how to deal with them.

• Provides information for newly arrived international students. Focus on the things you need to do after arriving to complete your enrollment at Uni as well as to register with the citizen's office.

• Provides information around the University and your studies, as well as on living in Osnabrück and Germany. Warning: Not all the information in there is still up-to-date. Still, it can be quite useful  to have a look at it. Provided by people in the Economics department, though not an official University document.
